Waves Neath Keel

Looking out from Nora Bheag as another Galway Hooker sails by

Waves neath keel toss boat up and down
Wind filled sails power her forward…
To tack the tiller to port is turned
To crew as instruction is given the word.

As one sheets pulled in the former working let out
Boom swings over, wind fills the sails again
Now, as in centuries long long ago
These waters were sailed by boatmen…

But motors power the boats at the lobsterpots,
Where technology through necessity has won,
Like horses, the sailboats are around still
A living history enjoyed with a sense of fun.

Have your say...
