The Burning of Limerick
Flames licked the night sky of Limerick
The Norse knew their own fear
That they had instilled to others
For too long both far and near!
The Dal gCais retreated:
The battle for now was won,
The enemy abroad hiding in the hills..
This nights bloody work was done.
An uncles murder avenged
Slaves taken for to sell or keep
The battle able slain in the streets
The Dal gCais went to sleep
It was not the end of the fighting to be done
But as the mornings day did break
The Norsemans power was broken in the South
Soon, Dublin itself they must take!
