Sun Does Shine

Anthony Ray Hinton (58) speaking to the press on being asked how it felt to be free after being released from Death Row, which he was on for 30 years.

Anthony Ray Hinton - freed after 30 years on Death Row
Anthony Ray Hinton – freed after 30 years on Death Row

Our broken hearts, our shattered dreams
Built on ideals, ambition, not fact
That cost us slee, worries and woes
Of how the other will react
Our jobs, the rat race and lifes chase
That steals from our life its joy
Are but childrens tears over spilt beers
Long may it be us such things annoy…

30 years facing death where nothing has changed
Bar laws on paper, where to be black officially is fine
Long may it be that neither you or me
Ever have to utter the words “Sun do shine”
