Simple Prayer for Complex Times
There are those who say that prayer is dead
In the Ireland of today
Where rationalism and science of modern times
Has swept faith and piseogs away.
But no, among the people here
To spite clergy and hierarchies crimes
There’s no faith in them, but there is faith
Among the faithful in there challenging times.
In the wake of abuse and cover ups
The hierarchy has lost its moral voice to speak
Yet still the faith itself hangs on
Though most say it is weak…
You find its strong among common people
Who are assembled anywhere
You find they still say and have regard
For their own favourite prayer.
