Charleston Yesterday and Today
God be with the days when it was but a dance
When you thought of Charleston, in newsreels,
Of crazy steps of a crazy dance craze of the twenties
Today, numb a world feels
As if we have not moved on since those days
Of segregation, discrimination and hate
For someone’s colour of their skin
It’s as if another world as papers state
The facts as they portray them
A crazed youth
Bred to hate though that’s denied, culture of guns
I’ve never seen the NRA protect black neighbourhoods
Gun display is a moment for white sons
Of America… let us not be complacent
The love of a few turned hatred on its head in time
The hatred of a few can do the same in a world of love
Unless we stop the legacy of this crime..
