Tonight, there I had, thanks to fellow Tullamore Rhymer Anthony Sullivan, the pleasure of hearing Co. Down singer songwriter Ciaran Lavery, and also local girl Niamh Dooley, who I call Offaly&#8217;s answer to Imelda May.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_963\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-963\" style=\"width: 1074px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Niamh-Dooley-sings-the-blues-in-Ballinagar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-963\" src=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Niamh-Dooley-sings-the-blues-in-Ballinagar.jpg\" alt=\"Niamh Dooley sings the blues in Ballinagar\" width=\"1074\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Niamh-Dooley-sings-the-blues-in-Ballinagar.jpg 1074w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Niamh-Dooley-sings-the-blues-in-Ballinagar-300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Niamh-Dooley-sings-the-blues-in-Ballinagar-1024x263.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1074px) 100vw, 1074px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-963\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Niamh Dooley sings the blues in Ballinagar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At this gig, I was just an audience member, not doing any readings I could just relax, enjoy a few Red Bulls and the excellent catering of the Savages, which was laid on for free for all and sundry.<\/p>\n<p>Niamhs song &#8220;Im Not Your Girl&#8221;, an original, was the stand out tune of the night for me, and her smile and style will carry her a long way in the music business, akin to the other great simger and smiler I compared her to, Imelda May.<\/p>\n<p>Her style is very akin to Imelda, and also the late lamented local band <a title=\"Eyeing Up Other Mens Girls with Low Down Pleasures on the mind at the Tae Lane EP Launch \u2013 Blog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/eyeing-up-other-mens-girls-with-low-down-pleasures-on-the-mind-at-the-tae-lane-ep-launch-blog\/\">Tae Lane<\/a>, and its amazing how an area like the midlands can produce such fine preformers in this particular Tom Waits style music&#8230;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_964\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-964\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ciaran-Lavery.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-964\" src=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ciaran-Lavery-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Ciaran Lavery -  www.ciaranlaverymusic.com\/\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ciaran-Lavery-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ciaran-Lavery-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ciaran-Lavery-16x16.jpg 16w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Ciaran-Lavery.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-964\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ciaran Lavery &#8211;<br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ciaranlaverymusic.com\/\">www.ciaranlaverymusic.com<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>From County Down, Ciaran Lavery then proceeded to entertain us with a full set of original songs, from his EP &#8220;Kosher&#8221; and his album as well, which were on sale on the night.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Orphan&#8221; got the crowd going, but &#8220;Left for America&#8221; was my favourite from Ciaran.<\/p>\n<p>The night was a innovation. House concerts are all the rage in America, relayed to my by Anthony Sullivan, who writes the Midland Tribune column &#8220;On The Right Trax&#8221; in association with &#8220;TRAX&#8221; music in the Bridge Centre in Tullamore. For me, it is like the old Seis\u00fan reinvented, but with arranged artists as opposed to the crowd themselves being the entertainment.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F161971413&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=true&show_comments=true&color=false&show_user=true&show_reposts=false\"><\/iframe>\n<blockquote><p>Did it work? Yes it did. It was nice to hear songwriters and singers such as these in an intimate environment, as opposed to a busy pub where the music in the background noise, not the reason for the gathering.
