{"id":724,"date":"2014-09-23T14:18:31","date_gmt":"2014-09-23T14:18:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=724"},"modified":"2014-09-23T14:18:31","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T14:18:31","slug":"life-itself-for-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/life-itself-for-sale\/","title":{"rendered":"Life Itself For Sale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The water we drink is up for sale<br \/>\nThat falls free from the sky<br \/>\nThe frackers for profit pollute the groundwater<br \/>\nIts danger they to all deny.<br \/>\n<a title=\"Just Doing Our Job\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/just-doing-our-job\/\">Horses for sale<\/a> and hens as well<br \/>\nWe do not now have the right<br \/>\nBut others can sell the water we drink<br \/>\nYet people fail to together against them fight.<\/p>\n<p>What is it about our enchanted island<br \/>\nOr are its people under a spell?<br \/>\nWe would not have stood for this in times of old<br \/>\nWhen water pure was drank from the well&#8230;<br \/>\nOr are we a nation of idiots,<br \/>\nWho to stand up for ourselves we fail<br \/>\nWhen it looks to the whole wide world<br \/>\nThat life itself is up for sale&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Background:<\/strong><br \/>\nAs fracking starts in Belcoo in Fermanagh, apart from the usual eco activists, there is little opposition to pollution of a shared water table for the Erne basin, and also the Shannon water table, from which we all drink.<\/p>\n<p>The water we do have to drink, we now have to pay for, and yet we stand idly by as our <a title=\"They Took from Us\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/they-took-from-us\/\">traditions are taken away<\/a>, from selling <a title=\"Just Doing Our Job\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/just-doing-our-job\/\">horses and hens at the Banagher Horse Fair<\/a>, unhelpful regulations, always for our own good, are brought in, making us criminals in our own country for living our lives as we always did.<\/p>\n<p>Im not a big believer in the anti flueride campaign, settling them in the same bracket as the <a title=\"Windmills and the Don Quixote of the Modern Age\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/windmills-and-the-don-quixote-of-the-modern-age\/\">anti windmill fanatics<\/a>, but our haplessness and apathy does beg one to wonder, are we under a spell as a nation?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The water we drink is up for sale That falls free from the sky The frackers for profit pollute the groundwater Its danger they to all deny.
