But at least its not torn down, as the developers who are selling it wanted to do. It needs someone with vision, know how, and a few quid to bring it back to its former glory. It has seen a few horse fairs, may it see many more!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some had horses and donkeys<br \/>\nSomeone had a pony<br \/>\nThere was yarns and stories<br \/>\nSome spoke baloney&#8230;<br \/>\nSome bargained and deals struck<br \/>\nMore walked away<br \/>\nThe craic and the story<br \/>\nOf Banagher Fair Day<\/p>\n<p>COVID was present<br \/>\nIn the back of the mind:<br \/>\nWays to make all comfortable<br \/>\nEveryone did find.<br \/>\nIt was like the old days<br \/>\nFolk from all sorts of places<br \/>\nThe length of the island,<br \/>\nBut some missing faces&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>These have been strange times<br \/>\nAn odd couple of years,<br \/>\nBut now we venture out<br \/>\nFace down our fears<br \/>\nWe will talk of these times<br \/>\nIn days yet to be<br \/>\nWhen we were happy again<br \/>\nEach other to see.<\/p>\n<p>Hope is a fair day<br \/>\nWhen friends we meet<br \/>\nTo banter and bargain<br \/>\nOn Banagher&#8217;s Main Street.<br \/>\nBabser&#8217;s windows are boarded up (1)<br \/>\nLike many in town<br \/>\nBut at least the developers gave up<br \/>\nOn pulling it down.<\/p>\n<p>Outside its walls and its windows<br \/>\nFor two hundred years or more<br \/>\nHorses each year have been traded:<br \/>\nBe be for at least as much more.<br \/>\nThrough world wars and rebellions<br \/>\nCivil wars, strife and plagues too<br \/>\nThe chain of history, hope and future<br \/>\nShines strong and shines true!<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Glossary<\/strong><br \/>\n(1) Babser Hynes is the house I grew up in.
