A sinner as is every man
\nColumba for his family had great pride
\nSwift of tongue and hot of temper
\nHe challenged all who in his path did stride.<\/p>\n
At Cool Drewny where Connacht and Ulster meet
\nMet the kings in battle swords drawn for blood
\nAnd Columba, who prayers to heaven for victory made
\nDeclared the sins for the slaying on his soul stain should<\/p>\n
And so the battle did commence and savage was
\nTo avenge the death of one who as sheltered was kept
\nFrom the king by Columba in a place holy
\nOnly to aside by the kings soldiers to be swept<\/p>\n
And they killed his charge, and Columba declared
\nThe king would have to take his shield
\nAnd as he humbled Columba and violated the church that day
\nHe would be humbled and punished on the battlefield.<\/p>\n
And his guard set by Dermot he did escape
\nAnd his way to his own folk he made
\nAnd exited their angers with the tale
\nAnd to raise arms in battle in revenge them he bade.<\/p>\n
At Taillte a Synod met him to discuss
\nFor we was known for causing the shedding of Christian blood
\nAnd it was declared in judgment of him that was made
