Grey skies over Aughrim:
\nFields peaceful and green,
\nThat knew terror and bloodshed
\nWhere battle had been.<\/p>\n

But now only cows graze there,
\nArmies fight no more,
\nTime heals all scars in landscapes
\nAs often since and before.<\/p>\n

From far fields in Flanders
\nFrom Ballinamuck to Beiruit
\nTime brings peace to spite Princes,
\nAges one eternal truth.<\/p>\n

The men who kill men,
\nLose most and win least,
\nTo the battlefield March knowing,
\nUnlike to the slaughterhouse walks the dumb beast.<\/p>\n

Other places, other battles like Aughrim,
\nUnder other grey skies,
\nShells throw up earth as they cut down men,
