{"id":456,"date":"2014-09-04T17:51:13","date_gmt":"2014-09-04T17:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=456"},"modified":"2014-09-04T17:51:13","modified_gmt":"2014-09-04T17:51:13","slug":"yearn-not-for-yesterday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/yearn-not-for-yesterday\/","title":{"rendered":"Yearn Not For Yesterday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ah, yes, in times gone by<br \/>\nAll, it was far better then<br \/>\nA time of chivalry and ceremony<br \/>\nA time of ladies and gentlemen<\/p>\n<p>Ah, yes, in times gone by<br \/>\nAll, it was not about speed<br \/>\nNo, a time of labour and of craft<br \/>\nDictated to man by need.<\/p>\n<p>Ah, yes, in times gone by<br \/>\nAll in war, was not so much horror and slaughter<br \/>\nA time of uniforms, duels and rules of war<br \/>\nAnd not in the army be any mans daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Ah, yes, in times gone by<br \/>\nAll, ladies, yes them all<br \/>\nWere not hassled by careers<br \/>\nThey knew true romance after the ball\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Ah yes, in times gone by<br \/>\nAll, was far from what it seems<br \/>\nThose days were worse than what we have<br \/>\nThe preceding verses are but romantic dreams.<br \/>\nLadies lived lives of hardship<br \/>\nThe poor suffered more than others<br \/>\nHad no choice, no vote, no voice<br \/>\nSlaved for the children who called them mothers.<br \/>\nAnd war \u2013 war was as savage then<br \/>\nFought by cannon, cavalry and man to man<br \/>\nPretty uniforms don\u2019t make a war gentle<br \/>\nConflict was and is horrific since time began<br \/>\nWorkers slaved at the factory<br \/>\nChildren sweating at the loom<br \/>\nFor more and more for the rich man<br \/>\nLimbs and lives lost in the boom<br \/>\nPomp, then as now, too was hollow<br \/>\nJust a demonstration of pride<br \/>\nFancy words hide hard hearts<br \/>\nThere was little love inside.<\/p>\n<p>So when of today you are tired<br \/>\nYearn not for long ago<br \/>\nBe grateful for what you\u2019ve got<br \/>\nAnd that the horrors of history you do not know.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ah, yes, in times gone by All, it was far better then A time of chivalry and ceremony A time of ladies and gentlemen Ah, yes, in times gone by All, it was not about speed No, a time of labour and of craft Dictated to man by need.
