an exotic body of a dead man washed ashore at Renmore, making him think there was land to the West, inspiring his voyages.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Long before, long long ago<br \/>\nWhen Christians did not own slaves<br \/>\nColumbus to Galway came it is said<br \/>\nBy some who by others are dismissed as knaves.<\/p>\n<p>Walking along the beach one day<br \/>\nOn the rocks and pebbles along Renmore<br \/>\nA corpse exotic was washed up<br \/>\nThat was never seen before.<\/p>\n<p>He was no Moor, this dead man<br \/>\nThat came from waters beyond the mist&#8230;<br \/>\nOr from Africa or far Cathay<br \/>\nKnown not well, but that they did exist.<\/p>\n<p>That there is in another land far far west&#8230;<br \/>\nColumbus to others did say<br \/>\nWords to be rued down through the centuries&#8230;<br \/>\nDown to the present day.<\/p>\n<p>Did Native Americans, back in those times<br \/>\nOn a skin sail boat journey east?<br \/>\nCarried from the Caribbean on the current warm?<br \/>\nWhere from was the deceased?<\/p>\n<p>Did they nearly &#8220;discover&#8221; Europe?<br \/>\nWho would find them in a few years<br \/>\nBringing untold misery in the name of God:<br \/>\nSlavery, tyranny and tears.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we set out to explore the stars,<br \/>\nWonder have others to us have come&#8230;<br \/>\nEither could be the Spaniard or the corpse<br \/>\nThat we know not where was from&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Maybe, we are better on our own:<br \/>\nOur own planet or our own shore&#8230;<br \/>\nWhat a paradise would America now be<br \/>\nIf, what we in hindsight know now, we new before?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Legend states Columbus holidayed in Galway five years before finding America &#8211;
