to the living was lost.<\/p>\n<p>But dreams are the gateways to what we know not<br \/>\nA dream was shared among men three<br \/>\nOf a black flag, and location buried there<br \/>\nNeath where the treasure aught be.<br \/>\nAs per tradition a rooster was brought<br \/>\nFor eveil spirits are scared off by a cock<br \/>\nAnd spades they brought to uncover the earth<br \/>\nTo dig up the treasure neath the rock.<\/p>\n<p>Mans labour, when in team set, soon brings reward&#8230;<br \/>\nThe black flag set in the ground they did find,<br \/>\nBut strange as the dream, a confusion did seem<br \/>\nTo seize each man in his mind&#8230;<br \/>\nDelusion, confusion, comrades in this collusion<br \/>\nWandered around lost for a few days<br \/>\nIn time their minds cleared, but had disappeared<br \/>\nMemory of the flag that had held their gaze&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Some say in the bars over a few jars<br \/>\nThe fold is in the ground at Derrydolney yet<br \/>\nFor the men forgot the truth of tradition<br \/>\nThe essential part of the ritual they did forget&#8230;<br \/>\nFor men who know little know in little too much<br \/>\nKnow not for the protection to be fulfilled<br \/>\nThe cock must be eaten a little, the rest left for the Gods &#8211;<br \/>\nThe poor fools didn&#8217;t even have their cock killed!<\/p>\n<p>From Ballyboy, and through todays Kilcormac<br \/>\nTo Easter Island across the sea<br \/>\nA shared tradition of superstition<br \/>\nIts strange it is to see&#8230;<br \/>\nThat there, read headed, in the Isle of the Heads<br \/>\nThe ritual of the rooster too was practiced outside the tombs&#8230;<br \/>\nWe talk of today of where the gold still lies<br \/>\nAs we drink slowly in our barrooms!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The legend of the Cock and the Crock of Gold in Kilcormac, in the times of the Wars of the Molloys&#8230;
