The girl I feel sorry for.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>No dancing from the Easter Sun<br \/>\nI had tried for years to see<br \/>\nThe Full Moon went down in the West<br \/>\nBut the Sun would not dance for me<br \/>\nAs it did for my grandfather<br \/>\nIn Aughagreagh all those years ago&#8230;<br \/>\nPerhaps your faith it must be strong<br \/>\nFor such miracles to show&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I very much the lapsed Catholic<br \/>\nIn the church am rarely seen<br \/>\nYet as much as anyone<br \/>\nA Catholic I have been.<br \/>\nA helping hand, a kind word offered<br \/>\nA prayer said silent, the voice within,<br \/>\nI have murdered no body Ill admit to!<br \/>\nCommitted the usual minor sin.<\/p>\n<p>The Ireland of today, some has changed, yet little<br \/>\nThe &#8220;ravaging&#8221; still goes on,<br \/>\nThe woman will not get justice<br \/>\nPeople debate, read, and yawn.<br \/>\nThe men still are the hero&#8217;s<br \/>\nTop shaggers, legends in their own mind,<br \/>\nThe woman is told she is foolish<br \/>\nAs innocent the accused the jury find.<\/p>\n<p>This modern culture which encourages females<br \/>\nTo be as wild, as bad as the men<br \/>\nServes only men, not women<br \/>\nWho find themselves yet again<br \/>\nAs objects for a mans desire<br \/>\nWho can invite his pals to join in:<br \/>\nThe brassers as they call the girls<br \/>\nShot stop silently within.<\/p>\n<p>Old fools in their foolish way<br \/>\nTry to paternally advise<br \/>\nKnowing the risks, but not how to challenge them<br \/>\nOnly manage to patronise.<br \/>\nFree Love in modern Ireland does not exist:<br \/>\nThis is not the hippy dream&#8230;<br \/>\nThis is every chavenists fantasy<br \/>\nWho plot, with glib words scheme&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>We do not want to go back to the world of yesterday<br \/>\nWhere girls were badged with shame<br \/>\nBut we need a bit of the honour<br \/>\nOf the Ireland of old from which we came.<br \/>\nIt starts at home, honour, respect, consent<br \/>\nNothing sexual if either are inebriated<br \/>\nIf possible in a relationship of sorts,<br \/>\nIf not, at least known to each other, their love celebrated.<\/p>\n<p>Or lust, or whatever it is,<br \/>\nFriends with benefits, who for each other care&#8230;<br \/>\nAnything is better then the subculture<br \/>\nThat exists today outthere.<br \/>\nThe lads in their heads are legends&#8230;<br \/>\nI hope some of her menfolk find<br \/>\nThe legends in some dark alley&#8230;<br \/>\nOf the girl and the night they bring to mind!<\/p>\n<p>Where will we be in a hundred years?<br \/>\nWhat will happen to society?<br \/>\nWill no one care of right and wrong<br \/>\nThink old fashioned rhyming fools like me?<br \/>\nDid the sun dance in the sky this morning<br \/>\nFor some old person of strong faith before mass?<br \/>\nI know not as I walk home from work<br \/>\nSilent stranger nods hello as I pass&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Musings in verse on the current issues of consent, and the Ulster Rugby scandal. Off from work,a rarity, with fine weather, an even more rarity, through sloth and lazyness, I slept it out, and didnt see it, though it was my first Easter in the new house in the old county!
