At Inishcaltra he learned to write
\nAt his mothers knee to pray
\nIn Italy he learned to fight
\nIn Ireland he was not to stay.<\/p>\n

A Holy man to Rome he went
\nIn pilgramage for his soul
\nThe Pope in time gave his consent
\nTo wandering go – he arrived in Fiesole<\/p>\n

A distraught people that was there
\nPraying for deliverance he found
\nFrom evils temporal and of the spirit where
\nThe bishop by cruel hands was drowned!<\/p>\n

Someone declared that it was he
\nTo save the town was sent to them
\nSo bishop he found himself to be
\nWho just among them came.<\/p>\n

The geltle rule of a clergyman just
\nWas felt both true and great
\nOf the people he got the ear and trust
\nBrought back piety and faith.<\/p>\n

He founded San Martino di Mensola abbey of which is spoke
\nThe Saracens he drove from Rome
\nHeard the confessions of simple folk
\nCounselled kings and emperors in their home.<\/p>\n

When death to him came calling
\nAs he lay drawing his last breaths there
\nIts said that as the darkness of death was falling
\nHe was visited by Bridget of Kildare…<\/p>\n

A simple man who followed Gods will
\nWho went where Divine Providences wind did blow…
\nLet us strive to be like him, fulfill
\nOur destiny that God in His way and Time will show!<\/p>\n
