Not even the Bible can be a shield against a swinging sword<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The death of Mahon, the King, who set a little too much faith in the Bible for protection! An old verse of mine republished on the site.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A Holy Book it is no shield
\nTo those intent its bearer to kill
\nSuch a man should always carry a shield
\nAnd the words of the book his heart should fill
\nAnd fight he strong when on the hour
\nHe is compelled to hold the sword
\nLet his eye be keen in the the fight
\nAnd at deaths breath the Holy Word<\/p>\n

For once Mahon, a king of Eireann went
\nA brother of the oft times famed Brian Boru
\nTo meet a rival, guaranteed by a Bishops word
\nOnly by Molloy, Bran of Desmond’s son: to be slew
\nWhen on him by brigands was drawn the sword
\nStunned, to protect himself he made a stand
\nAnd rose to chest level the Holy Book
\nA copy that was written by St. Barre’s hand.<\/p>\n

But to a brigand a book is but paper
\nAnd he done what he set out to do
\nAnd slayed the noble king holding the Word of God
\nBy driving his sword right through
\nAnd the vellum was stained with the kings blood
\nAs were His garments on the cross
\nAnd little was the rivals gain
