1798 Thinking is what we need to return to, the tragic rebellion finished on these fields over the bogs of north Longford in and around the village of Ballinamuck<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\n~ Longford phrase meaning its an old fashioned notion and idealist, unlike modern reality<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

To think like we did, in those distant days
\nSo unlike as we do in these modern times
\nThat all are equal and Irish, though Anglo or Scot
\nNot answerable for their forefathers crimes
\nFor we are all of sinners born
\nWhen those sinners wielded swords and guns
\nTrue peace we will never here see
\nIf we pass the sins of the fathers to the sons…<\/p>\n

But, those folk of seventeen ninety eight
\nWhen church backed state against the poor
\nThe poor were rich in spirit and heart
\nOf the justice in the cause were sure
\nThat a small nation among the great could stand
\nThat three as one, while being still their own could be
\nNow as of freedom to the Great Nations is to slavery thrown
\nWhy are we blind to the vision that they could see?<\/p>\n

That every man, from the castle Lord
\nTo the Spailpin along the road
\nThe Traveller in his cart, the farmer on his fields
\nHave walked the life their forefathers strode
\nThat their sons will and must and their kine
\nMust without the outsider make a land there own
\nFor how is a man free if he must run
\nTo make money for a king who has no throne?<\/p>\n

When we see our folk from homes thrown
\nSo Mammonites can make money without sweat of brow
\nFrom the tears of the dispossessed like former times
\nYet of the wrongs of the British cry?
\nIn 98 the poor together stood
\nWould have to for another hundred years and more
\nTo keep the bailiffs and the Emergency Men
\nFrom torching the thatch and breaking in the door.<\/p>\n

That is our thinking, our heritage proud
\nNot trendy in these times that call themselves progressive
\nWe worry have we enough when we party our excess
\nWe are not evolutionary – rather are regressive.
\nWho matters more, the opinion of a stranger
\nThat we are cool, or the small hand of our own blood?
\nWho think we are the world for we are all of theirs
\nWe scorn this because others say we should.<\/p>\n

So we can have careers and make profits for firms
\nWho want billions instead of millions, and we race
\nUntil we die, owning more than we could ever pay
\nThe banks close in, our kin have nothing, we have no place.
\nEven a grave is a luxury: though not in Ireland yet
\nBut what is Europe today is Ireland tomorrow
\nImagine, your children may not get to see
\nThe place where you were laid in times of plenty and of sorrow.<\/p>\n

Every family needs to own their own home
\nIts common sense, not communism
\nOur home is not an assett to be rented forever
\nWe are not slaves to the gods of capitalism.
\nWhen times our faith was forbidden, the quiet word given
\nRegister as Protestant, worship, or you will be marked in
\nIn times to come, freedom to be Catholic will come again
\nTo do so is no crime against man and to God is no sin.<\/p>\n

Why not each partner works half of a week
\nYet each be seen as working a full time job
\nYet take their turns at keeping a parent always in the family home
\nThe best arms to cradle a child when they sob.
\nIn times of hardship, we did not drift, abandon and walk away
\nWhen things got hard, or harder then they were in 98…
\nNo, they thought different, and we should think like they
