The men of 1798 had no need to parade to prove they were Protestant, or to oppress their fellow Irish for being Catholic.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To march they had no need to state<br \/>\nThat they were Protestant and they were great<br \/>\nThe Glorious Revolution to commemorate<br \/>\nThey sought mere religious freedom<br \/>\nAnd the thought as much of William as any who drums bate<br \/>\nAnd they walked their own road to Gods kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>In their time they were not allowed<br \/>\nFor they were of the wrong crowd<br \/>\nThough against Rome they too had vowed<br \/>\nThey were not of the Church of the King<br \/>\nThey lived and fought with Papishers unbowed<br \/>\nAnd they lost of their faith nothing.<\/p>\n<p>But, alas, after the Union was passed through<br \/>\nPassed too did our solidarity, we rue<br \/>\nAnd bigots on our side fanned the flames that grew<br \/>\nTo mature into this centuries hate<br \/>\nAs enemies each other we knew<br \/>\nAnd the hatred was great.<\/p>\n<p>And so on Twalfth they marched, and do still<br \/>\nAnd will march on and on until<br \/>\nOf hatred they have got their fill<br \/>\nOr both sides meet to talk<br \/>\nAnd like the men of 98 their hatred kill<br \/>\nSo there&#8217;s no need the Queens Highway to walk.<\/p>\n<p>Then both sides Orange and Green<br \/>\nCan commemorate those who at the Boyne had been<br \/>\nAnd over the world it can be seen<br \/>\nAs in 1798<br \/>\nWe healed the wound in hatred&#8217;s spleen<br \/>\nTo make a nation great.<br \/>\n<figure style=\"width: 1302px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/quincey.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Longford-Sash-Copy.jpg\" width=\"1302\" height=\"821\" alt=\"A sash from one of  Longfords now defunct Orange Halls\" class=\"size-full\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">A sash from one of  Longfords now defunct Orange Halls<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not all Protestants have a need for Orangism, though there is a face that is not as bigoted as what is presented in the years of late.
