Not all Protestants have a need for Orangism, though there is a face that is not as bigoted as what is presented in the years of late. The men of 1798 had no need to parade to prove they were Protestant, or to oppress their fellow Irish for being Catholic.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

To march they had no need to state
\nThat they were Protestant and they were great
\nThe Glorious Revolution to commemorate
\nThey sought mere religious freedom
\nAnd the thought as much of William as any who drums bate
\nAnd they walked their own road to Gods kingdom.<\/p>\n

In their time they were not allowed
\nFor they were of the wrong crowd
\nThough against Rome they too had vowed
\nThey were not of the Church of the King
\nThey lived and fought with Papishers unbowed
\nAnd they lost of their faith nothing.<\/p>\n

But, alas, after the Union was passed through
\nPassed too did our solidarity, we rue
\nAnd bigots on our side fanned the flames that grew
\nTo mature into this centuries hate
\nAs enemies each other we knew
\nAnd the hatred was great.<\/p>\n

And so on Twalfth they marched, and do still
\nAnd will march on and on until
\nOf hatred they have got their fill
\nOr both sides meet to talk
\nAnd like the men of 98 their hatred kill
\nSo there’s no need the Queens Highway to walk.<\/p>\n

Then both sides Orange and Green
\nCan commemorate those who at the Boyne had been
\nAnd over the world it can be seen
\nAs in 1798
\nWe healed the wound in hatred’s spleen
\nTo make a nation great.
