being beaten by the Pashtun &#8211; that is the British Army, befoire heading around to cottages around the country and telling the stories to a raptured audience who identified so well with this mysterius people.<\/p>\n<p>As a child, when the muhajideen were fighting the Soviets, my father often spoke of this&#8230; one of the Longfordmen who fought against the Pashtun in the British Army and brought back tales of a fierce but honourable people<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The groundsman listened as they ladies spoke<br \/>\nOf the hopes for the British Army defeating<br \/>\nThe latest revolt in a distant land<br \/>\nWhere the troubles kept on repeating<br \/>\nToday your ally, tomorrow your enemy<br \/>\nAn enemy both to be feared and respected<br \/>\nTied to faith as their identity<br \/>\nWho refused to be subjected.<\/p>\n<p>By cottage firesides, listening ears<br \/>\nHeard repeated these tales of the Pashtun<br \/>\nMen on horseback born without fear<br \/>\nWho fought with sword and gun.<br \/>\nThey might as well be Irish<br \/>\nTied to culture and to faith<br \/>\nBound by honour and hospitality<br \/>\nBoth believe that God is great.<\/p>\n<p>I as a child in the Eighties<br \/>\nAs my father listened to the news<br \/>\nTe Soviets fought the Mhajideen<br \/>\nWhat an enemy to choose!<br \/>\nThey will never defeat the Pashtun, my father delcared<br \/>\nIf they fight for a hundred years more<br \/>\nRepeating what to Willie Carty was said<br \/>\nBy Doppings, some seventy years before!<\/p>\n<p>Today, even my father is dead<br \/>\nAfghanistan is still at war today<br \/>\nThis time America are the fools<br \/>\nThinking they will bend those people to their way.<br \/>\nMan never will learn from mistakes of others<br \/>\nWho slander them on media still<br \/>\nWe know, we respect the Pashtun as a people<br \/>\nWhose self respect and freedom outsiders will never kill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Willie Carty worked for the Dopping Hepenstal family, and heard stories of their relative who was in the British Army in Waziristan at the time, and of a mysterius warrior people, tied to their faith and identity, who were savage, unyeilding and unfailingly honourable and hospitable in equal measure.
