{"id":3552,"date":"2017-02-22T00:11:31","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T00:11:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=3552"},"modified":"2017-02-22T00:38:06","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T00:38:06","slug":"my-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/my-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"My Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Stephen James Smith, the founder of the once epic Gl\u00f3r Sessions in the International Bar did a verse for the St. Patricks Festival on the theme of &#8220;My Ireland&#8221;. to spite scandals our faith is still important in Ireland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>i<\/strong><br \/>\nMy Ireland &#8211; we rarely protest<br \/>\nSeeing an agenda beyond what we support<br \/>\nWe do not trust those with the agenda<br \/>\nWho say the right things on the news report.<br \/>\nIf promised just half of their agenda<br \/>\nOn how much of our cause would they compromise<br \/>\nThey would sell us all out in an instant<br \/>\nThat sad truth my Ireland does realize.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ii<\/strong><br \/>\nWe saw them before at independence<br \/>\nWhen they bleated about great freedom for all<br \/>\nSeems they think it is better for the poor<br \/>\nWhen they by their own oppressed and made small.<br \/>\nAh yes, Traveller and the Sapilpin<br \/>\nWho found work and respect in landlords days<br \/>\nFound a cold house though they too Catholic<br \/>\nSome freedom for them in these modern days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>iii<\/strong><br \/>\nWe see demanding gombeen politicians<br \/>\nRant about horses to put in their place<br \/>\nThe Travelling people and inner city folk<br \/>\nWho keep horses on the common space.<br \/>\nIts safety for others and the horses<br \/>\nThat belong in the country not there<br \/>\nSimilar is said about that old tradition<br \/>\nThe annual village and town horse fair.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/banagher-horse-fair\/hoult-yer-horse\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2304\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2304 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Hoult-yer-horse.png\" alt=\"Hoult yer horse\" width=\"245\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Hoult-yer-horse.png 549w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Hoult-yer-horse-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Hoult-yer-horse-300x300.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/a><strong>iv<\/strong><br \/>\nIn Banagher and also Ballinasloe<br \/>\nLatter a Green Fair, the former of the Street<br \/>\nMovements to stop them have had their say<br \/>\nBut its our tradition that they wont defeat.<br \/>\nIn urban planning stables for horse owners<br \/>\nShould be planned for, and commonage green<br \/>\nBut that wont keep the councillors happy<br \/>\nWho strong against Travellers want to be seen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>v<\/strong><br \/>\nThen in Galway here in my Ireland of today<br \/>\nAnother gombeen of the New Labour left<br \/>\nTo get the votes of the middle classes<br \/>\nRanted about Roma Hair braiders, the only niche left<br \/>\nNo, this was not Oliver J Flanagan<br \/>\nOr a Donald Trump of the modern age<br \/>\nThey wouldnt even do that in North Longford<br \/>\nWhere a similar stooge seeks to strut that stage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vi<\/strong><br \/>\nMy Ireland &#8211; condemnative society<br \/>\nWho gossip, badmouth, deride and they blame<\/p>\n<p><strong>viii<\/strong><br \/>\nGirls, but rarely ever the fellow<br \/>\nWho often as not is unknown<br \/>\nIn our still chauvinistic society<br \/>\nThe girl is looked down on, left on her own.<br \/>\nIf its all right for men who have lovers<br \/>\nSo it should be for a woman then too<br \/>\nHer children should be accepted as equals<br \/>\nBut that is not what society does do.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ix<\/strong><br \/>\nTrue, in Ireland its not like it was<br \/>\nBut we still have a long long way to go<br \/>\nIf we are pro life we must accept all<br \/>\nLet us no prejudice to the unmarried show.<br \/>\nAt risk of committing a little blasphemy<br \/>\nSure Mary Herself, to all around was unmarried<br abortion<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>x<\/strong><br \/>\nHere in Galway town once upon a time<br \/>\nA mother lost her child not long ago<br \/>\nThey asked it be removed to save her life<br \/>\nWas answered &#8220;Irelands Catholic&#8221; as no.<br \/>\nThe left as it presents itself was preaching<br \/>\nBlamed the 8th Amendment and led the call<br \/>\nIt be repealed as a step to abortion<br \/>\nAs they want it, free and free for all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>xi<\/strong><br \/>\nThere is no guarantee it would have saved Savita<br \/>\nThough it was the best option to save her life<br \/>\nHer husband called for it and was ignored<br \/>\nBy ignorant staff as he pleaded for his wife.<br \/>\nThe amendment says &#8220;where not practical&#8221;<br \/>\nAlas, for the unborn child all was lost<br \/>\nBeing on its way it can only be hastened<br \/>\nNot stopped, the mothers life the cost.<\/p>\n<p><strong>xii<\/strong><br \/>\nNot one on the left cried to the racism<br \/>\nThe unseen elephant that was in the room<br \/>\nWhich normally when arguing against common sense<br \/>\nIs their first call as marching tune.<br \/>\nIf she was white and if she was Irish<br \/>\nDo you think such like would be to her said?<br \/>\nBut no an ignorant lady doctor<br \/>\nKept the dying mother in her place instead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>xiii<\/strong><br \/>\nBut stating that truth will not suit the slogan<br \/>\nThat on their placards the trendy protesters wrote<br \/>\nSure its all about the marketing really<br \/>\nThe parties more extreme to get the vote.<br \/>\nSo they made a football of the tragedy<br \/>\nContinue to do so to this day<br \/>\nBut my Ireland, cynical, see through it<br \/>\nInto their hands it refuses to play.<\/p>\n<figure go to church<br \/>\nIn aisle before seating give genuflection<br \/>\nWe oppose abuse coverups of clergy<br \/>\nBut we for clerics and faith have affection.<br \/>\nAbuse and cover up is throughout society<br \/>\nThough of the clergy being moral we expected more<br \/>\nThere will be more to come from all sections<br \/>\nThat will make simple the problems we have had before.<\/p>\n<p><strong>xv<\/strong><br \/>\nThe new left and atheists kick the pope<br \/>\nSay things if the Orange Order they did state<br \/>\nThey could be reported and prosecuted<br \/>\nPunished for acts and speeches of hate.<br \/>\nMy Ireland ignore the gibbering nyeucks<br \/>\nTo their provocation will not rise<br \/>\nThey&#8217;ve little more to them than their agenda<br \/>\nMy Ireland, experienced, does realise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>xvi<\/strong><br \/>\nMy Ireland sees the unions want more for the well paid<br \/>\nWhile the lower paid are told keep to their REA<br \/>\nThe business students of ten years ago<br \/>\nAre the managers now who deny fair pay.<br \/>\nSo they have their banners and march down Shop Street<br \/>\nWe look cynically as in cafes we the Land League fought<br \/>\nThe stood for each families home their own.<br \/>\nBack in the day before we flew our own flag<br \/>\nGo to America was the medias call<br \/>\nIrelands to poor for all bar the rich<br \/>\nSome freedom they wanted our heros to fight for and fall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>xviii<\/strong><br \/>\nMy Ireland strains under charlatans on the make<br \/>\nSaviors self appointed that serve an interest of their own<br \/>\nTis is not their land to change as they see fit<br \/>\nThis is all of ours, which we all own.<br \/>\nIreland has come through worse in the last hundred years<br \/>\nIt will come out of this bruised but stronger of the fight<br \/>\nThe charlatans, the chancer&#8217;s will fall away<br \/>\nLittle will change, but it will be more or less all
