{"id":3485,"date":"2017-01-17T19:52:43","date_gmt":"2017-01-17T19:52:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=3485"},"modified":"2017-01-17T19:52:43","modified_gmt":"2017-01-17T19:52:43","slug":"no-horse-sense-in-galway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/no-horse-sense-in-galway\/","title":{"rendered":"No Horse Sense in Galway"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote ><p>The furore being kicked up over urban horses by supporters of Mike Cubbard a city council member rumbles on.<\/p>\n<p>Something of a Donald Trump of the Wild West of Ireland, it smacks of more anti Traveller sentiment than pro horse welfare.<\/p>\n<p>Suggestions of mine for commonage and stabling to come from recreation (parks and playground) finances kept the mantra of &#8220;we need money for houses&#8221; coming even though thats a red circled budget.<\/p>\n<p>Its more NIMBYism than anything. But sure pandering to and stoking peoples passions gets votes, even if its kicking a whole community who he claims to have &#8220;good friends &#8221; anong. Akin to Trump and the Mexican he seems to concede &#8220;some are good people&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u20ac75000 odd it cost to round up horses and kill them for their own good. Less than housing one family. Not to Ballinamuck but out the country, out of sight.<\/figcaption><\/figure>I<\/p>\n<p>Horses do not belong in a town<br \/>\nSays the gibbering nyeuck to the bigoted clown<br \/>\nTravellers cannot camp on the road<br \/>\nThey must conform to the commonest word.<\/p>\n<p>No paddocks on an estate green<br \/>\nAs if horses in towns were never seen<br \/>\nNo stables in yards to be built<br \/>\nDeclare the great without any guilt.<\/p>\n<p>Before cars how did folk get around?<br \/>\nYes! Horses in towns were found!<br \/>\nBut Travellers lived on a country lane<br \/>\nSo over horse welfare few went insane.<\/p>\n<p>Seize the horses for their own good<br \/>\nGoes the order that be seized they should<br \/>\nFor the great and the good have so willed<br \/>\nIt baffles me how its good for their health as they are killed!<\/p>\n<p>No Ghengis Khans in Galway<br \/>\nBut plenty of cowboys at play<br \/>\nThose who claim for housing most of all<br \/>\nFor funding to be denied to horses they call.<\/p>\n<p>The council builts skater parks on squares<br \/>\nPitches for sports everywhere<br \/>\nBut if some ask for a track for trotting<br \/>\nAll look into full pockets : say there is nothing.<\/p>\n<p>When one self styled wandering lothario<br \/>\nLeaves a girl in trouble and says cheerio<br \/>\nIts costs more to house her and her child &#8211; than for all those horses to &#8216;care&#8217;<br \/>\nSure the rest of society to pay is there.<\/p>\n<p>It is but NIMBYISM i fear<br \/>\nAimed at the commonest ear<br \/>\nThe Irish Donald Trumps will win alas<br \/>\nUntil Travellers learn to vote en masse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The furore being kicked up over urban horses by supporters of Mike Cubbard a city council member rumbles on.
