Image from Google &#8211; source unknown<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n  Each native youth on reaching age,<br \/>\nBefore declaring himself a man,<br \/>\nGoes in solitude like Christ himself,<br \/>\nTo prepare for life as best he can.<br \/>\nOne native youth a mountain he saw,<br \/>\nDecided to climb it as a test,<br \/>\nAnd upon reaching its summit cold,<br \/>\nCongratulated himself fro his conquest.<\/p>\n<p>  And then&#8230; a rattlesnake he saw,<br \/>\nBacked away he did with a start,<br \/>\nThough aged it was&#8230; and stiff with cold,<br \/>\nAnd looked to have faint heart.<br \/>\nIt looked as it was nearing its dying days,<br \/>\nNo, rather was in its dying throes,<br \/>\nAnd to the boy, the snake it spoke&#8230;<br \/>\nOr so the story goes.<\/p>\n<p>  Aye, the same as to Eve in Eden,<br \/>\nWho was to by a serpent spoken<br \/>\nThe apple to eat was tempted,<br \/>\nAnd so the promise to God was broken.<br \/>\nThis rattlesnake spoke to the boy,<br \/>\nAnd with its roguish charm,<br \/>\nPleaded to be brought down the mountain,<br \/>\nAnd it would do him no harm.<\/p>\n<p>  After stalling for a while,<br \/>\nSo the story&#8217;s told,<br \/>\nThe boy, or good heart or bad sense,<br \/>\nLifted the snake from the ground cold.<br \/>\nAnd so safe the rattlesnakes life,<br \/>\nOr try to at least he might,<br \/>\nAnd in return he&#8217;d save his own<br \/>\nAs the rattler promised not to bite.<\/p>\n<p>  And descending down the mountain,<br \/>\nSnake wrapped in warm buffalo hide,<br \/>\nOf the shirt that up the mountain he had worn<br \/>\nThe snake slept soundly inside,<br \/>\nAnd at the floor of the mountain tall,<br \/>\nThe boy set the rattle snake free,<br \/>\nUpon touching the ground it rattled and hissed,<br \/>\nRose&#8230; to strike the boy on the knee.<\/p>\n<p>  But you promised you wouldn&#8217;t pleaded the boy,<br \/>\nAs to the ground in pain he fell,<br \/>\n&#8220;&#8221;You knew what I was when you picked me up&#8221;&#8221;<br \/>\nThe snake to him did tell.<br \/>\nSo should you meet a snake in the snow,<br \/>\nOr in the lushest of grass,<br \/>\nBelieve not the promises they speak,<br \/>\nBack off!
