But these days are too dark for looking to the future so far, or am I just in melancholic mood, as Yeats wrote some of his best under the gathering clouds of World War Two, as I reflected in my verse &#8220;<u><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/dawn-breaks-as-yeats-goes-to-sleep\/\">Dawn Breaks as Yeats Goes to Sleep<\/a><\/b><\/u>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>If Yeats today were alive<br \/>\nHe would write this man a poem<br \/>\nOr a poem for all like him<br \/>\nWhose photo I look at, at home<br \/>\nToday, Goretex are the grey clothes<br \/>\nThe complaints are the same in this town<br \/>\nThe cliques, the money, the knave all thrive<br \/>\nGreat art still beaten down.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe in a twelve month to come<br \/>\nI will write of for him a world to be<br \/>\nBut these days bright are far to dark<br \/>\nSuch a future time to see.<br \/>\nThe fools, mad fools and those who follow them<br \/>\nBlindly, beyond reason, emit hate<br \/>\nThe wise and tolerant are the fools<br \/>\nThe blaggard once more is great.<\/p>\n<p>So, I look at the Salmon Fisher<br \/>\nWho in the Corrib cast his flies<br \/>\nI write no poem for him or tomorrow<br \/>\nIts futility I realise.<br \/>\nThe sun will rise in the morning<br \/>\nOn what sort of world will it shine?<br \/>\nWe  must face up to it, each one of us<br \/>\nIts our destiny, yours and mine!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On taking a picture of salmon fishers at the Salmon Wier in the Corrib a few days ago, I thought of Yeats poem &#8220;The Fisherman&#8220;&#8230; and thought to write one for the fisherman of the modern age.
