A dream horrific of men being killed
\nWoke the lady though the night
\nOf men of old with shield and sword
\nOn horseback in a fight
\nPerhaps a film seen and forgot
\nWas what brought these dreams
\nBut she said she had not watched films such as that…
\nIts not the cause it seems
\nFor these night visions terrifying
\nTo a stranger in a land as strange
\nFinding it hard to settle, sleep disturbed
\nLeft the brain within nightmares range…<\/p>\n
And so nothing of the dreams was said
\nAnd time in time is passed
\nBut the dreams she thought in time would go
\nThey always seemed to last
\nThough she was settled and all was well
\nAs well as things can be
\nWhen you are far from your home
\nIn Ireland as a refugee<\/p>\n
One night in a neighbours home while talking
\nAnother neighbour spoke
\nOf a recurring dream she had over the months
\nFrom which she often awoke
\nAnd she described in every detail
\nAs our friend sat silent out the story came
\nThe dream in every detail
\nIt seemed it was the same…<\/p>\n
And speaking to her husband
\nThey thought it strange and wondered why
\nAnd told few they did she dreamt as well
\nBut one day when talking I
\nTold of the Sieges of Athlone
\nOf which they had heard not
\nThe site of the fighting and killing
\nTheir camp was on the very spot!!!<\/p>\n
Was this in a Romanies dreams
\nThe ghosts of soldiers long dead
\nStill fighting the Williamite wars
\nFilling the minds of the living with dread
\nOr was it the dreams of one unsettled
\nIn a land that was new
\nWe know not which it was
\nBut she and they now think they do<\/p>\n
For the dead return in dreams
\nAnd grudges do not forgive
\nAnd will enter the dreams of those asleep
\nWho on the site of their death do live
\nSuch it is their belief
\nAnd who knows, maybe they are right…
\nSo pay attention when you dream
