A bed hard of stone neath the sky starry above
\nIs good enough, soft enough, for a couple in love
\nHe who won her heart at her wedding feast, with her had fled
\nSo she never slept with Fionn Mac Cumhaill in their martial bed
\nHer groom – he now so old, though a warrior he
\nLeft her cold, never his lover could she be
\nSo to the hills for a year and a day
\nHer and her strong youth they made their long way
\nThey for one night, such the danger, though Aughnacliffe is so nice
\nSlept here but stayed not, never bedding the same place twice.
\nPursued all the time by the groom warrior band
\nSome of whom helped the eloping lovers, the escape they had planned
\nWise Aengus makes the peace between Fionn and his son
\nFor every girl deserves to live with he whose heart she has won
\nSo the wild hunt was ended, they are enemies no more
\nThe whole band in time planned a hunt for the Boar
\nDiarmaid being brave but no knave with foreboding took up his spear
\nAs it was said he would be dead when the boar did appear
\nSo it came to be, that he, with his dying breath
\nSlew the savage boar that killed him, as his fate it was set
\nBrave in death as in live, in love as in the hunt
\nLived life and died bravely and always to the front
\nGr\u00e1inne lies now, a widow with memories, in their bed alone
