By force won from the feirce O’Flahertys
\nHeld by Burke for the English Crown
\nOn the wrong side of the Wars of the Roses
\nThey in time faced the English who wanted to burn it down.<\/p>\n

The English and French they cast aide
\nFor the tongue once their regime saught to oppress
\nOn behalf of the Crown who thought little of the Irish
\nThat thought of them now even less.<\/p>\n

But they kept their haircuts and their way of speaking
\nWho across the island are now far flung
\nFreedom regained in time and its passing
\nAt the cost of spilled blood and the native tongue.<\/p>\n

The castle today is but a ruin standing
\nTo I, the walker as I pass
\nOut for a walk on a Sunday morning
\nWhen I should be in church attending mass!<\/p>\n
