Taxpayers evicted by the banks who were bailed out by taxpayers – Modern Ireland: why not bring back the Land Commission<\/strong><\/em><\/a> as it worked for the landlords it would for the banks, people would get to hold their homes, the banks books would be better moving troubled accounts from them and the state would get the profits.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The men came to the door,
\nSome in uniform
\nMore not.<\/p>\n

The children crying, the mother too
\nWhat could anybody do?
\nThe crowd was baying.<\/p>\n

But for all the crying in the world
\nThe rough men took down the thatch
\nAnd if they failed
\nFire was put to it.<\/p>\n

To the road the people went
\nNeighbour evicted if they took them in
\nSo no one did
\nFor want of a roof
\nA helping hand and food
\nBy the road they died
\nDying for a chance to live.<\/p>\n

Today, men come to the door
\nSome in uniform
\nMore not.<\/p>\n

\nWhat can anybody do?
\nThe crowd is baying.<\/p>\n

But for all the crying in the world
\nThe rough men drag them out
\nThey rarely fail
\nHouse worth too much to burn.<\/p>\n

To the road the people go
\nThe neighbours wont be evicted: but few will take them in
\nFamily and friends normally do
\nFor want of a roof
\nA helping hand from the state
\nBy their own hand they die
\nLife a living death.<\/p>\n

Background:<\/strong><\/p>\n

No one is saying modern evictions are as bad as in the 19th century, horrific ones like the leveling of the village of Ballinamuck<\/a><\/strong> still make us shiver to this day. However, while people died trying to live back then, today they die by their own hand as they have nothing to live for.<\/p>\n

Recently 5 farms were taken in Tipperary, within a fortnight three of the men of those families took their own lives.<\/p>\n

At a time when officially the governement are promoting programs to reduce the suicide rate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
