April 20th 1847<\/p>\n

Men, children and women with clothes cast away
\nCame to Derrycassin door
\nTo protest and plunder for want of food
\nFor work was finished, and they were poor.
\nAs sooner die of gunshot they said
\nAs hunger, they had nothing left
\nNo home, no food, no future: all
\nMany of family to hunger bereft.<\/p>\n

The JP to granard set about
\nOnly work this Saturday could he get
\nThey went contented as can be expected
\nTheir subsequent fate we know not yet
\nDid they then by the roadside die
\nOr did they shomehow manage help somewhere find
\nA distand cousin found them at his door
