My circus animals were all on show,
\nThose stilted boys, that burnished chariot,
\nLion and woman and the Lord knows what<\/p>\n

\nHow shall I, the writer cope?<\/p>\n

The horses no more gallop around the ring:
\nGirls dancing on their back – the joys they bring!<\/p>\n

The elephant rearing on its legs on the stool:
\nInspired verses of the jester fool<\/p>\n

The lion to whipcrack on the chair
\nBrought he tales of bravery there!<\/p>\n

The lurching walk of the giraffe:
\nWas the wry rhyme that made the readers laugh –<\/p>\n

The camel with its look so smug:
\nWas the witticism found at the bottom of the mug –<\/p>\n

The monkey with its crazy play:
\nWas the epic verse of a successful day:<\/p>\n

The tiger with its gaze intense:
\nThe poem edited that now makes sense – <\/p>\n

Alas, no more the circus shall be
\nThe activists liberated them from me
\nSo we will take down the tents, and then
\nThe writer shall throw away his pen!<\/p>\n
