My father worked Blackwater Bog where many stone age and prehistoric items and roads were found. “Work on, if the archaeologists come it will be shut down and you will all be out wages” came the order – not in writing of cource – from the offices of a semi state agency, a compatriot of which hyprocritically is stopping private people cutting bogs “to save our culture” ignorant or silent of the history that was willingly destroyed for profit a mere 30 years before…<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Some people wonder why I am so into supporting the turf cutters rights. My dad worked Blackwater Bog, where the order came through to work on through and ignore the stone and iron age roads and weapons that were found in a cultural massacre to rival Wood Quay. No fan of ancient history himself, even he knew it was wrong and should not have been done.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Plain of the kings of Ireland’s past
\nThe brown gold harvested to burn
\nLayer by layer and year by year
\nUntil to the base earth we return…<\/p>\n

Butter found on the upper layers
\nHiden a few hundred years ago
\nPloughed on through, some kept and eaten for fun
\nNo one spoke, few knew, no one would know.<\/p>\n

But then the timber roads broke the machines
\nThe foremen came to see what stopped the work complete
\nThe workers looks, all knew what they had found
\nA pre historic road within the peat!<\/p>\n

“Work on!” came from the bosses the order
\nThey had orders to meet, deadlines to make
\nThe archaeologists will stop the work and stop the wages
\nSo history wantonly destryoed for mammons sake.<\/p>\n

The bogs near gone, some folk in suits
\nWho are paid such orders to make and things to do
\nDecreed to the little folk as only the mighty can
\nThat some folk cannot cut some bogs, its only a few.<\/p>\n

There are grants, we will buy some, but for a certain price
\nPromises made, but some held their ground, some folk refused
\nThere would be no replacement bogs, the money small soon would be spent
\nTo heat their homes now as they had always these bogs would be used!<\/p>\n

“Cut on” they give the orders against the agents of the state
\nWho massacred our history for a temprary gain
\nIreland’s Valley of the Kings on Blackwater bog
\nWhere now no history does remain.<\/p>\n

The bog that should have been preserved
\nWas cut due to managements greed
\nBut now private bogs from which no money can be made
\nMust be preserved “for our collective cultural need”<\/p>\n

We are not the little people any more
\nTo landlords agents, gamekeepers or park rangers
\nThose who destroyed our land will never understand
\nHow to our own land and bogs we will not become visiting strangers!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
