My dad worked Blackwater Bog, where the order came through to work on through and ignore the stone and iron age roads and weapons that were found in a cultural massacre to rival Wood Quay. No fan of ancient history himself, even he knew it was wrong and should not have been done.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Plain of the kings of Ireland&#8217;s past<br \/>\nThe brown gold harvested to burn<br \/>\nLayer by layer and year by year<br \/>\nUntil to the base earth we return&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Butter found on the upper layers<br \/>\nHiden a few hundred years ago<br \/>\nPloughed on through, some kept and eaten for fun<br \/>\nNo one spoke, few knew, no one would know.<\/p>\n<p>But then the timber roads broke the machines<br \/>\nThe foremen came to see what stopped the work complete<br \/>\nThe workers looks, all knew what they had found<br \/>\nA pre historic road within the peat!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Work on!&#8221; came from the bosses the order<br \/>\nThey had orders to meet, deadlines to make<br \/>\nThe archaeologists will stop the work and stop the wages<br \/>\nSo history wantonly destryoed for mammons sake.<\/p>\n<p>The bogs near gone, some folk in suits<br \/>\nWho are paid such orders to make and things to do<br \/>\nDecreed to the little folk as only the mighty can<br \/>\nThat some folk cannot cut some bogs, its only a few.<\/p>\n<p>There are grants, we will buy some, but for a certain price<br \/>\nPromises made, but some held their ground, some folk refused<br \/>\nThere would be no replacement bogs, the money small soon would be spent<br \/>\nTo heat their homes now as they had always these bogs would be used!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cut on&#8221; they give the orders against the agents of the state<br \/>\nWho massacred our history for a temprary gain<br \/>\nIreland&#8217;s Valley of the Kings on Blackwater bog<br \/>\nWhere now no history does remain.<\/p>\n<p>The bog that should have been preserved<br \/>\nWas cut due to managements greed<br \/>\nBut now private bogs from which no money can be made<br \/>\nMust be preserved &#8220;for our collective cultural need&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We are not the little people any more<br \/>\nTo landlords agents, gamekeepers or park rangers<br \/>\nThose who destroyed our land will never understand<br \/>\nHow to our own land and bogs we will not become visiting strangers!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some people wonder why I am so into supporting the turf cutters rights.
