One upmanship, greed, and piracy… a tale of the O’Driscoll clan of pirates of the Irish south coast…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Helen of Troy of our fair isle
\nThat gets men drunk the more they are kissed
\nNo meter mortal maiden fair
\nWhose sweet words when gone are missed
\nNo, this senorita is silent – a rare type! –
\nSeeks not to seduce or have men killed
\nBut alas, as is so often our gory story
\nFor the greed of her kisses many were killed!<\/p>\n

Wild Atlantic waters lashed the ships bows
\nSpirits of the sea that by sailors are dreaded
\nThe crew thought ship cargo and crew would be lost
\nThey would never see Waterford to which they were headed…
\nThey sought refuge in Baltimore by cruel fate
\nLa Santa Maria de Soci was the ships name
\nFinneen, his sons Conor and Gilly Duff
\nGave word and them broke it without any shame.<\/p>\n

They seized the crew and ship and pillaged the cargo
\nTied the crew below under lock and chain
\nBroke the seamans trust for their lust
\nThat broke many men – the King of Spains Daughter.
\nShe is no mortal maiden that sheds tears
\nNo, but the lustful seductive cask of wine
\nKnown as such when such was rare
\nFerried amid danger over the treacherous brine!<\/p>\n

In time the crew by their own would be freed
\nThe pirates slunk away and did not fight
\nThe castle shelled, the ship sailed away
\nRevenge and return they would claim later as their right.
\nAprils opening day, among the shadows of dusk
\nGalleys appeared and shelled Sharkin island all night long
\nThe smoke rose into the morning dawn sky
\nThe garrison and chieftains had gone!<\/p>\n

Four hundred men plundered Baltimore
\nSlew all round, put houses to the flame
\nSailed along the O’Driscoll coast
\nLanding at villages to inflict the same…
\nHow many died for a chieftains greed for wine?
\nBy the King of Spains Daughter seduced
\nMore enchanting than a mermaid for a drunken sailer fuelled by greed
\nOn sobering up, to a mere pauper reduced!<\/p>\n
