{"id":2435,"date":"2015-12-17T03:24:29","date_gmt":"2015-12-17T03:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=2435"},"modified":"2015-12-17T03:35:16","modified_gmt":"2015-12-17T03:35:16","slug":"saint-fechin-was-no-feckin-saint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/saint-fechin-was-no-feckin-saint\/","title":{"rendered":"Saint Fechin was no Feckin Saint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saint Fechin was a feckin fecker<br \/>\nThat bigger feckers made a saint<br \/>\nPrayed for a plague to plague the poor:<br \/>\nThe fecker: a saint he aint!<\/p>\n<p>The least of Gods children he prayed ill for<br \/>\nAt the behest of a cruel king<br \/>\nWho thought the poor too much in number<br \/>\nShowed church and state to be the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>But a bittersweet justice God gave<br \/>\nHe allowed the plague on the poor<br \/>\nThat was prayed for by the clerics for the king<br \/>\nBut it carried them off including this hoor!<\/p>\n<p>How can a church that prays for death<br \/>\nFor the poor call itself pro life to this day?<br \/>\nGods name they shamelessly took in vein<br \/>\nUp to now an apology they refuse to say!<\/p>\n<p>So on January 20th let us remember<br \/>\nSaint Fechin the fecker from Fore<br \/>\nShowed how church and king are the same thing<br \/>\nLet us call Fechin a feckin saint no more!<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0\u25a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.boynevalleytours.com\/images\/fore_abbey.jpg\" alt=\"Fore Abbey of Saint Fechin\" \/><\/p>\n<p>St Fechin  (pronounced Feckin in the east of Ireland!) Was a corrupt Irish monk who on behalf of currupt kings prayed for a plague in Ireland to reduce the numbers of the poor.<\/p>\n<p>Its the worlds earliest record of eugenics! He should be the patron saint of the super rich.<\/p>\n<p>How he is a saint is a mystery. As abbot of Fore Abbey his feast day is January 20th.<\/p>\n<p>Of the three saints asked (him, St Gerard of Mayo and Manchan of Leamonaghan in Offaly) only Gerald refused the request.<\/p>\n<p>His end is poetic justice: he and Manchan die in the plague they prayed for while Gerald the Good survives!<\/p>\n<p>While the poem is light hearted, the anger it contains is real.
