A distant isle, where it rarely rains
\nFamilies in a Granard that never burned
\nBar neath the sun, until
\nThe darkness of the day to night turned
\nCooled the sweat upon the brow
\nOf those whose forefathers shackles and chains
\nRattled in the fields in fear of the whip yielded
\nBy those of whose power only the names remains.<\/p>\n

The fields from where my people come
\nLived in fear of the yeomans sword
\nThe flames set by redcoats and Covenanter
\nThe neighbours whispering words.
\nLittle known, less spoken of the darkies
\nDriven by plantation agents from here across the sea
\nDrovers of humanity whip workers to grow the bitter sugar
\nThat I stir here now to sweeten my coffee.<\/p>\n
