For the strangers came and tried to teach us their way.
\nThey scorned us just for bein’ what we are.
\nBut they might as well go chasin’ after moon beams
\nOr light a penny candle from a star.<\/b><\/p>\n

We will always cut our turf!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The strangers came in suits
\nShiney shoes, not boots
\nSniney shoes, they no longer wore sandles or clogs<\/p>\n

They told us to save the coots
\nThe flora and the newts
\nWe would have to stop cutting turf on our bogs<\/p>\n

They listened to folk talking who did not like shit
\nWere concerned of street safety, said their writ
\nWe would have to stop having our Horse Fair<\/p>\n

The more that they persisted
\nThe more we the people resisted
\nIt will be on the streets of Banagher, it belongs there.<\/p>\n

They can mock and scorn
\nThis is the land where we were born
\nThis is our heritage, these have been and will be our ways<\/p>\n

We will cut our turf as we always done
\nBy machine now not slane, by both father and son
\nAnd Banagher will enjoy its long loved Horse Fair Days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
