I was at a remembrance service for April 8th, a decade or more ago, – the commemorative day for victims of the Porajmos, the Roma in the Holocaust, and at the presentation speech the vicar of St. James in Piccadilly quoted Hitler wen crossed about the consequences of the holocaust: he queried as to “who remembers the Armenians?”… let us state proud and loud: “We do!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Victims of the Genocide of the Armenians by forces of the Ottoman Empire<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Only dust now they are
\nThe dust to which we will all return
\nIn our time, when it is up
\nUnder the desert sun they burn
\nBleached white, some are from skulls
\nMore from legs or arms
\nSome were rich and more were poor
\nTownspeople, and more from farms…<\/p>\n

Murdered, but its not genocide
\nTo mention it it is a crime
\nNo, not victims of Nazi Germany
\nThese are from another time
\nThese are victims of the Turks
\nAnd their Islamic allies, the Kurds
\nVictims of a massacre
\nThat causes me to fail to find words…<\/p>\n

Killed by starvation and marching
\nNot for them the decency of gas
\nSave a lucky few killed in a cave
\nAll died and buried without a mass
\nWhen Hitler was asked about reaction
\nTo the holocaust and those who died
\n“”Who remembers the Armenians””
\nWere the words with which he replied…<\/p>\n

And in today, our age of reason
\nI fail to understand how
\nWe tolerate the affront of Turkey
\nAnd to deny we allow
\nThis genocide of the Armenians
\nIn the year 1915
\nHad it not occured, was stopped
