{"id":203,"date":"2014-08-03T16:23:57","date_gmt":"2014-08-03T16:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=203"},"modified":"2014-08-11T16:26:13","modified_gmt":"2014-08-11T16:26:13","slug":"castlepallooza-rocked-in-the-rain-by-the-tullamore-rhymers-failing-to-make-fermoy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/castlepallooza-rocked-in-the-rain-by-the-tullamore-rhymers-failing-to-make-fermoy\/","title":{"rendered":"CastlePallooza Rocked in the Rain By the Tullamore Rhymers &#8211; Failing to Make Fermoy"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>It is with regret due to work commitments we failed to make the <a title=\"History of Poetry in Fermoy \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Gene Barry and the Fermoy International Poetry Festival\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/history-of-poetry-in-fermoy-gene-barry-and-the-fermoy-international-poetry-festival\/\"><strong>Fermoy International Poetry Festival<\/strong><\/a> and the Poetry Bus ran by organiser Gene Barry, but two local events we did get to make were the monthly <strong>Scene of the Rhyme<\/strong> in Joe Lees in Tullamore, and of course the famous <strong>Castlepalooza<\/strong> festival here in town.<\/p>\n<p>Another event I repeaddly have missed was the LastWednesday series in Dublin, to whichI&#8217;d hoped to bring some of the Rhymers. With regretwe learned of the <a title=\"\u00e2\u20ac\u0153What We Leave Behind\u00e2\u20ac\uf19d \u00e2\u20ac\u201d R.I.P. Sarah Lundberg of Seven Towers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/what-we-leave-behind-r-i-p-sarah-lundberg-of-seven-towers\/\">passing of Sarah Sunflower Lunberg<\/a> who ran the event. May she rest in peace.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Our third time in <strong>Charleville Castle<\/strong>, after <strong>Shakefest<\/strong> and <strong>Facefest<\/strong>,and that&#8217;s after missing the <strong>Shakefest Artists BBQ<\/strong>, we nearly have a residency there at this stage! This year, the poetry reading was ran under the banner of &#8220;Scene of the Rhyme&#8221;, whereas last year it was under the <a title=\"Tullamore Rhymers Club\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/listing\/tullamore-rhymers-club\/\"><strong>Tullamore Rhymers Club<\/strong><\/a> itself, which caused its own end of debate behind the scenes, as happens in all good arts groups!<\/p>\n<p>The Tullamore Rhymers Club veteran and MC for the night was Cormac Lally &#8211; he of the Be-Spoke wedding speeches scheme &#8211; who started off with the Obama\u00c2\u00a0 poem, and the members done three poems each in the classic revolver maneuver, featuring yours truly, James Delaney, Richard Brennan, conscript Steven Hynes, and the late but better so than never David Mallaghan.<\/p>\n<p>The ones I read were &#8220;<a title=\"Distant City, Close Experience\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/distant-city-close-experience\/\">Distant City, Close Experience<\/a>&#8220;, <a title=\"Give to Me an Angry Sea\" href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/external-videos\/give-to-me-an-angry-sea\/\">Give to Me an Angry Sea<\/a>&#8221; and a couple of others. Richard Brennan &#8211; also of the Rhymers &#8211; done his piece &#8220;Saturday&#8221;, followed by &#8220;Fish on Friday&#8221; among others, and Stephen Murphy brought the house down with his by-now viral video &#8220;<a href=\"www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RTsBSTnuf84\">Was It For This<\/a>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Paul Curran brought us on a taxi ride through Dublin, David Mallaghan informed us of issues with unofficial halting sides near\u00c2\u00a0 the ISS, and Mr Hynes showed up without his pants&#8230; again!<\/p>\n<p>It was a follow on of the night in Joe Lees a few days earlier, where again as part of the Rhymers I had done a reading &#8211; details below&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>Scene of the Rhyme<\/h2>\n<p>The monthly Scene of the Rhyme was on the previous Thursday, as always, and featured the usual suspects, plus guests <span class=\"userContentSecondary fcg\">Saul Delmore Philbin Bowman , Eileen O&#8217;Toole, David Mallaghan, David Hynes Jimmy O&#8217;Connell , Fergus Costelloe, Paul Curran , Thomas Carty , and Paula Flynn among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Willie Rimes was missing, assumed still recovering from his expeiences at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/willie-rimes-goes-to-belfast-to-protest-at-the-parades\/\">family reunion in July<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3515\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3515\" style=\"width: 982px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3515\" src=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Saul-Philblin-Bowman-reading-at-Scene-of-the-Rhyme.jpg\" alt=\"Saul Philblin Bowman reading at  Scene of the Rhyme\" width=\"982\" height=\"353\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3515\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Saul Philblin Bowman reading at &#8220;Scene of the Rhyme&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Fergus was unique, something akin to the D&#8217;Unbelievables doing poetry, and I now have to visit that music shop in Nenagh, where there is a lone pliers in the back room, or so we are told!
