This tells of a local house where the wife had a short tolerance after a certain hour and wanted the house cleared. The locals, out of a sense of fun and divilment, were not for moving&#8230; I wrote a version of this before and lost the words of it&#8230; so here&#8217;s the second draft!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2003\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2003\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Cartys-of-Aughagreagh.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Cartys-of-Aughagreagh.jpg\" alt=\"Our family in front of the home house at Aughagreagh\" width=\"1024\" height=\"824\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2003\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Cartys-of-Aughagreagh.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Cartys-of-Aughagreagh-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2003\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our family in front of the home house at Aughagreagh<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>All were in for the session<br \/>\nOr had called by for tea<br \/>\nThe man of the house was merry<br \/>\nThe housewife tired and sleepy<br \/>\nThe bucks and nyeucks were not for moving<br \/>\nThe damsels and dawsies were wild and free<br \/>\nThe housewife would shout to clear the house:<br \/>\n&#8220;Out dogs, and more along with ye!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>No one moved: this being Longford<br \/>\nTo be an annoyance was an achievement, not to be fair<br \/>\nTo see the housewife tired, her anger rising<br \/>\nWas a source of fun for all those there&#8230;<br \/>\nSomeone would strike up a song<br \/>\nThe dogs shivering outside the door<br \/>\nThe song would finish, the housewife would sigh<br \/>\nThe husband would call for more&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Simple fun of a humble people<br \/>\nAll taken in good spirits, though it drove her demented<br \/>\nSome night the session would be in another&#8217;s house<br \/>\nShe would be the wall to dally and be contented&#8230;<br \/>\nA simple phrase to be remembered<br \/>\nAnd told of years later was a &#8220;grate spake&#8221;<br \/>\nEntertained a child told of when his parents were young<br \/>\nSuch things great memories make.<\/p>\n<p><b>Glossary:<\/b><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;grate spake&#8221; &#8211; great speak \/ saying (Hiberno English \/ phonetic spelling)<br \/>\n&#8220;bucks&#8221; &#8211; young strong men (Hiberno English, positive)<br \/>\n&#8220;nyeucks&#8221; &#8211; pranksters, sniggerers, (Ulster Scots, generally negative)<br \/>\n&#8220;damsel&#8221; &#8211; an innocent looking girl who was anything but (Eng archaic, negative)<br \/>\n&#8220;dawsie&#8221; &#8211; wild girl, prankster, too open or her own good (Ulster Scots, generally positive)<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In our home in Aughagreagh we used to have our share of the local sessions, where neighbours met up to party, tonight in one house, next night in someone else&#8217;s.
