{"id":1564,"date":"2015-03-25T00:37:47","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T00:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=1564"},"modified":"2015-03-25T00:37:47","modified_gmt":"2015-03-25T00:37:47","slug":"reading-at-the-circle-session-at-the-international-bar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/reading-at-the-circle-session-at-the-international-bar\/","title":{"rendered":"Reading at the Circle Session at the International Bar"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>This week I had the honour of reading at the current poetry night &#8220;The Circle Sessions&#8221; at The International Bar&#8221; I wasn&#8217;t up there since Stephen James Smith used to run &#8220;The Gl\u00f3r Sessions&#8221; back in the day, and it was nice to be on familiar turf again&#8230; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_1565\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1565\" style=\"width: 1920px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Circle-Sessions.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Circle-Sessions.jpg\" alt=\"Tomas at the Circle Session as a guest of David Hynes at his A-musing slot in the International Bar\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1565\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Circle-Sessions.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Circle-Sessions-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Circle-Sessions-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1565\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tomas at the Circle Session as a guest of David Hynes at his A-musing slot in the International Bar<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nSimilar to the preceding events that are run at The International Bar, there is a mix of music and poetry, the standout acts for me was the young rappers, and the harmonic group &#8220;J\u00f8ey Gavin &#038; Band&#8221;, and was MC&#8217;d by David Halpin&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>One girl I knew Id seen before was Cinzia Loi, and then I remembered seeing her at Accents a few months back.<\/p>\n<p>Shauna Byrne&#8217;s stand out poem was the Body Positive piece that protests against the size zero craze, a cause I fully espouse, while Kevin Dwane rocked the house with his tale of love, lust and murder!<\/p>\n<p>The night was capped off with a French girl doing a cover of &#8220;Non, je ne regrette rien&#8221;, which only sounds right coming from a French accented singer. I think the whole bar was in love with her after that!<\/p>\n<p>So, what did our Carty read? Well, it was a night of confusion with all the best plans of mice and men coming to naught, and Carty getting on stage not once, but twice!<\/p>\n<p>First up I done <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/give-to-me-an-angry-sea\/\" title=\"Give to Me an Angry Sea\">Angry Sea<\/a><\/b>, followed by &#8220;<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/never-mind-the-heartache-always-get-the-verse\/\" title=\"Never Mind the Heartache, Always Get the Verse\">Never Mind the Heartache<\/a><\/b>&#8221; and &#8220;<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/she-walks-not-the-paths-i-find-familiar\/\" title=\"She Walks Not the Paths I Find Familiar\">She Walks Not the Paths I Find Familiar<\/a><\/b>&#8221; telling of my latest trysts with the world of love, and as usual, unrequited!<\/p>\n<p>Next up I was up as the official slot as part of the A-musing section, with David Hynes as MC, which also featured John Sheehan a local Tullamore man who does comedy. I used to work with him in Tullamore Hospital, before a spat about the smoking ban saw Carty on tour!<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_1566\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1566\" style=\"width: 169px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Je-Ne-Regret.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Je-Ne-Regret-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"Singing &quot;Non, je ne regrette rien&quot; this girl won all our hearts...\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1566\" srcset=\"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Je-Ne-Regret-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Je-Ne-Regret.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 169px) 100vw, 169px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1566\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Singing &#8220;Non, je ne regrette rien&#8221; this girl won all our hearts&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>Delivered deadpan and accurate, John Sheehan is a unique and yet familiar style comedian, more like Kevin McAleer than Tommy Tiernan, and one to watch, he tells me he is at it a few years now, and more power to him.<\/p>\n<p>The Biffos had truly invaded, when I saw one of the minds behind the Banagher Fair page show in, who shall remain nameless.
