MacEoin and his staff arrived to unfurl the flag it was discovered that there was no flag-staff.<\/p>\n<p>However, G.V. Still from Path\u00c3\u00a9 video<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The fighting it was over &#8211; it had not yet begun<br \/>\nThe war, some thought was lost, yet more thought it won<br \/>\nTo withdraw from their Barracks the British rule was done<br \/>\nAthlone, it was handed\u00a0 to Mac Eoin, Ballinalee&#8217;s hero son.<\/p>\n<p>The British garrison leaving, a sight not before seen<br \/>\nAnd the time came to rise the flag of gold, white and green<br \/>\nAlas there was a problem, no flag staff had there been<br \/>\nIt appeared to all around there was none their ranks between.<\/p>\n<p>But there was a photographer, there to record the day<br \/>\nI will give you my yachts mast for a staff, he did say<br \/>\nAnd so a yacht mast it bore the flag in proud display<br \/>\nAnd history was made, as the British they marched away.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The next and perhaps the most moving scene of the day was the hoisting of the Tricolour on the castle, which was not without its touch of humour.
