{"id":1409,"date":"2011-01-02T14:05:42","date_gmt":"2011-01-02T14:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=1409"},"modified":"2015-01-24T14:08:16","modified_gmt":"2015-01-24T14:08:16","slug":"did-a-spirit-knock-on-rossbawns-walls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/did-a-spirit-knock-on-rossbawns-walls\/","title":{"rendered":"Did a Spirit Knock On Rossbawn&#8217;s Walls?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The story is told that an agent was slain<br \/>\nBy a tenant called Delaney who on the run did die<br \/>\nIn caves upon Sliabh Blooms wild hills<br \/>\nMany many years gone by.<br \/>\nFor sustenance he came down the hill<br \/>\nTo his house, outside a window he eat till he was full<br \/>\nAnd should the Yeomanry or Constabulary be seen<br \/>\nTo him was thrown a ball of wool.<br \/>\nAnd after his day by his family it was said<br \/>\nThat window would be left be<br \/>\nWhatever was changes, the window remained<br \/>\nAs through it the signal was given to flee.<br \/>\nAnd all was well for many years<br \/>\nAnd a new woman in the house she came<br \/>\nWas for changing this and altering that<br \/>\nAs women leave little the same!!!<\/p>\n<p>PART II<\/p>\n<p>But the word was given, that all can change<br \/>\nAs the lady&#8217;s heart it did desire<br \/>\nBut permission to alter this window was denied<br \/>\nThis her husband did deny her.<br \/>\nAnd his world by her was kept<br \/>\nBy a wife skeptical of the superstitions of her man<br \/>\nAnd bay slowly kept the years<br \/>\nOnce more ask to change it she began.<br \/>\nAnd once more yet again she was denied<br \/>\nAnd she thought it a great shame<br \/>\nA door to a to the back garden great there would look<br \/>\nThe window would be broken out to make the frame<br \/>\nAnd as women do she persisted<br \/>\nOver the years: not to be denied was she<br \/>\nUntil her man having put up the good fight<br \/>\nGave in and did to alterations agree.<\/p>\n<p>PART III<\/p>\n<p>A few nights later while in the pub<br \/>\nAll was quiet outside in the dark<br \/>\nChildren asleep upstairs in bed<br \/>\nNot even the family dog did bark.<br \/>\nAnd watching the telly was the housewife<br \/>\nWaiting for the homecoming of her man<br \/>\nFrom a night playing cards in the local pub:<br \/>\nWhen a hammering on the walls began!!!<br \/>\nGreat thuds and crashed vibrated the back wall<br \/>\nFor five to ten seconds at least<br \/>\nAnd startled the woman she jumped from her chair<br \/>\nThinking that broken from a field had a beast.<br \/>\nFor the fence to the field was not good<br \/>\nAnd in it was farily wild cattle<br \/>\nAnd all beasts see a fence as something to get through<br \/>\nAnd she assumed one of these made the walls rattle<\/p>\n<p>PART IV<\/p>\n<p>Oh but no, when to the garden she got<br \/>\nShe found no cattle there<br \/>\nAnd she was fleet on foot and quick<br \/>\nWhen she race outside from her chair.<br \/>\nAnd puzzled to her house she went again<br \/>\nAnd of it thought nothing<br \/>\nAnd went back to watching the TV<br \/>\nAnd the incident was forgotten<br \/>\nOn telling her husband when he got home<br \/>\nUnperturbed, the fields and fence he said he&#8217;d check out<br \/>\nHe found all was as it should be<br \/>\nAs through his yard and garden he went about.<br \/>\nSmiling if half jest to his wife<br \/>\nLeave the window be, he said<br \/>\nDelaney&#8217;s not happy I agreed to your change<br \/>\nIts not good to anger the dead.<\/p>\n<p>PART V<\/p>\n<p>And the following night the same thing happened<br \/>\nA series of thumps on the wall<br \/>\nA message from the dead by some it is said<br \/>\nThat they to the living do call.<br \/>\nSo she said shed leave it a while<br \/>\nA year or so at least<br \/>\nShe was not as skeptical of superstitions as before<br \/>\nAnd the strange knocks on the wall, they ceased.<br \/>\nToday telling the tale she&#8217;s embarrassed<br \/>\nThe window to a door in time they did change<br \/>\nAnd their are no reports (or she wont admit!!!)<br \/>\nOf anymore knocks so strange.<br \/>\nWhose to say it was not the spirit of Delaney<br \/>\nAngered at the windows change that was his life line before he did die<br \/>\nWhen throw through it was a ball of wool<br \/>\nWarning the constabulary was coming for the killing of the agent Ely&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The story is told that an agent was slain By a tenant called Delaney who on the run did die In caves upon Sliabh Blooms wild hills Many many years gone by.
