we&#8217;ll call.<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll build the kids a playground<br \/>\nAnd in it they can play<br \/>\nThey&#8217;ll not notice there corralled like animals<br \/>\nThis the council does say!<\/p>\n<p>o o O o o<\/p>\n<p><strong>Narrative:<\/strong><br \/>\nMen came from East and Came from west<br \/>\nAnd said from where they&#8217;d been<br \/>\nNothing like this ever did exist<br \/>\nNothing like this they&#8217;d seen.<br \/>\nIt could not be built, it was not right<br \/>\nIt was racist, outright wrong<br \/>\nAnd Romanys attacked the site<br \/>\nPulling down bits erected as they were built along<br \/>\nThe middle of the street they lived<br \/>\nAs their neighbours looked on with pride<br \/>\nAt how the council done their will<br \/>\nAns sided with their side.<br \/>\nBt the pressure it kept mounting<br \/>\nIt was seen the world round<br \/>\nAnd everyone who came on it<br \/>\nOnly revulsion in them was to be found.<\/p>\n<p>o o O o o<\/p>\n<p>And so in time the wall came down<br \/>\nSix weeks after it was built 1.8m high<br \/>\nBut to this day the scars remain<br \/>\nThe hatred does not die.<br \/>\nWhat is it about humanity<br \/>\nThat when there problems be<br \/>\nWill not talk and there or solve<br \/>\nBut think if they cannot see<br \/>\nBy building barriers between their own<br \/>\nAnd those whose presence they dont desire<br \/>\nThose they hate will not exist<br \/>\nIf they do, build the barrier higher?<br \/>\nFrom Berlin to Belfast theyve stood<br \/>\nAs well as in this town<br \/>\nSom of them are standing<br \/>\nAnd more of them has come down<br \/>\nThey stand to protect one from another<br \/>\nIn Belfast each other they attack<br \/>\nBut in this town Czechs attacked Roma<br \/>\nAnd the Roma did not fight back.<br \/>\nToday in that town and street<br \/>\nA wall we may not find<br \/>\nBut it will always exist<br \/>\nAs a barrier of the mind.<\/p>\n<p>* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *<\/p>\n<address>This poem is inspired by the news article on the fencing in of Roma by their Czech neighbours, even after their concerns was addressed.
