the locals know<br \/>\nBut the dark howling of the dogs who died<br \/>\nSome ninety years ago!<\/p>\n<p>A son to hunt rabbits went<br \/>\nDonald Cameron and his pet<br \/>\nThat was due to have puppies soon<br \/>\nTo hunt together out they set.<br \/>\nAfter sometime the dog got lost<br \/>\nAs Cameron cursed his luck<br \/>\nHis dog in a cave he found<br \/>\nThat had collapsed \u00e2\u20ac\u201c the dog was now stuck!<\/p>\n<p>Though he tried, to save he failed<br \/>\nAnd so back home he went<br \/>\nFor till his faithful dog was freed<br \/>\nHe would not rest content<br \/>\nBut storms were blowing stronger that day<br \/>\nAnd held for many more<br \/>\nAnd the Cameron boys were thwarted<br \/>\nEach time the storm cast them back to mainland shore.<\/p>\n<p>The Great War was now raging<br \/>\nAnd young Cameron got the call<br \/>\nAnd the morning he left he was his dog<br \/>\nHad freed itself from the rockfall<br \/>\nAnd it stood on its shoreline<br \/>\nLooking at its master and friend<br \/>\nWho by cruelty and mankind<br \/>\nHis country to war him did send.<\/p>\n<p>And when to war the boy had gone<br \/>\nHis brothers tried some more<br \/>\nThe stormy waters for to cross<br \/>\nAnd reach the islands shore<br \/>\nThe dog had her pups since then<br \/>\nThough food was in scarce supply<br \/>\nAnd temper and trust she had not for them<br \/>\nAnd to attack she was not shy.<\/p>\n<p>On a spring evening in 1915<br \/>\nAs her half grown pups around her played<br \/>\nShe sat upon a shoreline rock<br \/>\nAnd quite a sight she made<br \/>\nAs the sun sank behind the ocean<br \/>\nTelling end of day to beast, to man and fowl<br \/>\nHer head she threw back to the sky<br \/>\nAnd let an eerie high pitched howl!<\/p>\n<p>All that long night she could be heard<br \/>\nCrying to the black black sky<br \/>\nNext morning on the shore was found<br \/>\nHer corpse!for she did die!<br \/>\nSome time later the word came<br \/>\nThat on that very day<br \/>\nHer master died at war in Europe<br \/>\nRound the time she began to bay.<\/p>\n<p>Her pups ruled the island as their own<br \/>\nAttacked those who on it did land<br \/>\nIncluding an unfortunate yachtsman<br \/>\nWho nearly lost his like, not only his hand!<br \/>\nThe men folk from the village<br \/>\nTo organize themselves set out<br \/>\nAnd after some days were happy<br \/>\nThat the wild pack was wiped out.<\/p>\n<p>Some said that still a dog was seen<br \/>\nBy the shoreline, crying to the sky<br \/>\nAcross the loch from where it came<br \/>\nIn distant days gone by!<br \/>\nIn April 1930, a shepherd there slept<br \/>\nWith flock and dog for the night<br \/>\nAnd, to the baying of a pack, he rose to check<br \/>\nBut nothing of them was in sight.<\/p>\n<p>The flock were grazing peaceful<br \/>\nNormal all did appear<br \/>\nOnly the whimpering terror of his own dog<br \/>\nGave substance to his fear<br \/>\nIn time the island was sold<br \/>\nBy major Lewis O&#8217;
