{"id":1221,"date":"2008-11-12T05:16:16","date_gmt":"2008-11-12T05:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/?p=1221"},"modified":"2014-11-25T05:20:46","modified_gmt":"2014-11-25T05:20:46","slug":"let-us-remember-this-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/writingsinrhyme.com\/index.php\/let-us-remember-this-november\/","title":{"rendered":"Let Us Remember This November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This day we all remember<br \/>\nAs we are asked to and yet<br \/>\nIt seems our own who faught for their own land<br \/>\nWe are asked to forget.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Kettle: a hugely popular teacher at UCD<br \/>\nFree Gallant Little Belgium<br \/>\nThat raped Africa to the bone<br \/>\nAnd fight the Kaiser for freedom:<br \/>\nWas Germany to Ireland the Imperial one?<br \/>\nDid Germany let the Irish starve<br \/>\nForce us to speak their tongue<br \/>\nReduce our people on the social ladder<br \/>\nTo be the lowest rung?<br \/>\nDid these men who fought neath the flag<br \/>\nFight for Ireland in their time?<br \/>\nOr did they stone Sinn Fein offices in Banagher<br \/>\nSaying to fight for freedom was a crime?<br \/>\nLet us remember OUR HEROS<br \/>\nWho for OUR FREEDOM fought<br \/>\nRemember them, and not forget<br \/>\nEvery Irishman ought.<\/p>\n<p>In the pogroms of Ulster<br \/>\nIn 1969, it was said<br \/>\nThey would not idly stand by:<br \/>\nWords uttered but instead<br \/>\nThey DID stand by, and cornerboys<br \/>\nFrom the Bogside and the Falls<br \/>\nBecame men when they took up the gun<br \/>\nFor they WERE MEN, with BALLS<br \/>\nAnd the Free States Plastic Army<br \/>\nProtected no one at all<br \/>\nAnd the brave hunger strikers<br \/>\nAll but criminals them they did call<br \/>\nAtrocities were by our side committed<br \/>\nThat I admit and dont deny<br \/>\nBut I am proud of ALL the men<br \/>\nWho faught so ur flag on our land can fly.<br \/>\nThe men of the Somme faught not for Ireland<br \/>\nBut for the Empire they carried the gun<br \/>\nPeasents, it was with shotguns<br \/>\nAnd cornerboys, our freedom for us won.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This day we all remember As we are asked to and yet It seems our own who faught for their own land We are asked to forget.
