I got mixed feelings on writing in non rhyming verse, and while I do every so often, I rebel against the current thinking that says one must to be taken serious in the poetry world. As a writer in rhyme, who was lambasted for so doing in the Stinging Fly forums – ah, those were the days! – and this was one of the responses I gave!<\/address>\n

A writer of rhyme struggles not to
\nRhyme as he would on other verse
\nAnd paper and screen are the stranger for it
\nBut others, wiser, say it be so.<\/span><\/p>\n

And so the world is on its head
\nWhats right to write is wrong
\nThere may come a day… all too soon I fear
\nWhen decreed as restrictive is correct spelling.<\/p>\n

And I the poet with builders ffingers
\nYes, there I go again!
\nShall find my efforts feted as avante gard
\nOr something by fools who hate normality.<\/p>\n

Did I feel free made free from rhyme?
\nNo, my creativity is restricted
\nFor fools who if driving would
\nDrive on the right to say they are original.<\/p>\n

And the resultant car crash they would blame
\nOn all but themselves for the crash
\nThey do so with poetry, with their free verse
\nAnd being Anti-Midas… turn Gold to mere Shite.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
