As a writer in rhyme, who was lambasted for so doing in the Stinging Fly forums &#8211; ah, those were the days! &#8211; and this was one of the responses I gave!<\/address>\n<p><span class=\"PoetryStyles\">A writer of rhyme struggles not to<br \/>\nRhyme as he would on other verse<br \/>\nAnd paper and screen are the stranger for it<br \/>\nBut others, wiser, say it be so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>And so the world is on its head<br \/>\nWhats right to write is wrong<br \/>\nThere may come a day&#8230; all too soon I fear<br \/>\nWhen decreed as restrictive is correct spelling.<\/p>\n<p>And I the poet with builders ffingers<br \/>\nYes, there I go again!<br \/>\nShall find my efforts feted as avante gard<br \/>\nOr something by fools who hate normality.<\/p>\n<p>Did I feel free made free from rhyme?<br \/>\nNo, my creativity is restricted<br \/>\nFor fools who if driving would<br \/>\nDrive on the right to say they are original.<\/p>\n<p>And the resultant car crash they would blame<br \/>\nOn all but themselves for the crash<br \/>\nThey do so with poetry, with their free verse<br \/>\nAnd being Anti-Midas&#8230; turn Gold to mere Shite.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got mixed feelings on writing in non rhyming verse, and while I do every so often, I rebel against the current thinking that says one must to be taken serious in the poetry world.
