A is a type of metaphorical compound word or phrase used as an allusion to a simpler idea which (at the time) would be readily recognized. Ogham Kennings &#8211; as in this non rhyming poem &#8211; were prose or recitations to remeber a particular order of the letters of the Ogham \/ Ogam alphabet. It makes reference in the last stanza to reputed kennings attributed to CuCullainn among others for Ogham, which once had 150 or so, which bards and ollamhs would have to learn.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_2922\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2922\" style=\"width: 151px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.writingsinrhyme.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Ogam-Stone-also-spelt-Ogham-Stone.jpg\" alt=\"Ogam Stone - also spelt Ogham Stone\" width=\"151\" height=\"585\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2922\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2922\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ogam Stone &#8211; also spelt Ogham Stone<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nLook to where the sin rises: dawn breaks [B]<br \/>\nBringing the day, unleashing light [L]<br \/>\nLow, getting stronger, yet young, the sky fills [F]<br \/>\nFrom nests, slowly stirring, birds sing [S]<br \/>\nSongs from the branches of the trees now [N]<\/p>\n<p>Near sunset, day ends, however [H]<br \/>\nHolds a cloak over the sun, darkness descending [D]<br \/>\nDusk takes hold, light fades, sky changes tints [T]<br \/>\nThat bring another pallet of colour, black and grey cloud [C]<br \/>\nChanging shades broken by the Moon on her quest [Q]<\/p>\n<p>Queen of the night sky, journeying moon marches beyond midnight [M]<br \/>\nMasked by clouds, in skies together gathered [G]<br \/>\nGreat parade of pattern, less seen, now grown\u00a0 [NG]<br \/>\nGone at winds will, scattered at nights zenith [Z]<br \/>\nZen envelopes the forest as if a ruin. [R]<\/p>\n<p>Rain falls, in wind trees sway against [A]<br \/>\nA natural stance of stillness, or [O]<br \/>\nOff shakes the rain falling, their roots underneath [U]<br \/>\nUnderstand the trees need for water, takes just enough [E]<br \/>\nEven leaves the rest for all, can mankind learn: can I? [I]<\/p>\n<p>I and you, we are but trees, we move, each arm [EA]<br \/>\nEach arm are branches, our feet touch the earth [OI &#8211; Oir is the Irish for gold and earth]<br \/>\nEarth stained feet of clay we have, adore Gold, yet the poor mans elbow [UI &#8211; Uilleann is elblow in Irish]<br \/>\nSupports his chin as a rich mans does his, in order [IO &#8211; ?]<br \/>\nThat he be rested, be he bored or feeling ill.
