We know not his name&#8230;<br \/>\nA man from Mayo&#8230; we pass where he sleeps,<br \/>\nHe who died for a freedom his countyman gives away,<br \/>\nFew of his grave knows, or his memory alive keeps&#8230;<br \/>\nBut those that do&#8230; they do remember him&#8230;<br \/>\nUnknown soldier, all is known bar his name&#8230;<br \/>\nAbandoned by French allies, Scot and Gael faced the Crown forces<br \/>\nFrom Ulster and Connacht and Longford the fighters came,<br \/>\nPikes and muskets borne, but a few cannon,<br \/>\nSaotaged in transit due to the paid for word spoken,<br \/>\nA doomed pilgrimage to a self appointed Calvary<br \/>\nThey faced foe and fire, more than mere token,<br \/>\nA little Mayo some want, hands in greasy till,<br \/>\nOf whom Yeats wrote, whose kind here still thrive,<br \/>\nThis grave&#8230; of the Killala man&#8230; it IS Mayo<br \/>\nAnd all of Ireland in a plot when and where his memory is kept alive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He never went home.
