\nAbandoned by French allies, Scot and Gael faced the Crown forces
\nFrom Ulster and Connacht and Longford the fighters came,
\nPikes and muskets borne, but a few cannon,
\nSaotaged in transit due to the paid for word spoken,
\nA doomed pilgrimage to a self appointed Calvary
\nThey faced foe and fire, more than mere token,
\nA little Mayo some want, hands in greasy till,
\nOf whom Yeats wrote, whose kind here still thrive,
\nThis grave… of the Killala man… it IS Mayo
